Guitar Curriculum:
At Bowdoin Central School,
we learn to play the guitar in Fifth Grade.
Fifth
Graders participate in a guitar curriculum that teaches foundational
guitar playing techniques, chord-based songs, and song writing skills.
All the while students continue to develop and hone their music reading
abilities while adding to those skills through an introduction into
basic chord theory. Fifth Graders learn to identify major and minor
chords, and build basic major and minor triads. Students create their
own songs as a final project. In groups or individually, students
compose the lyrics, the melody, and the accompanying chord progression.
The final song is then recorded, evaluated and grade.
